It's really a culture problem. Everyone on here is trying to sell something stupid. Hopefully good algos get made and that fixes things. Main reason I'm on NOSTR again is I think good algos are important for small accounts to make new frens

I'm here to get away from the algos telling me who and what I should and shouldn't like. I share what I find entertaining, interesting, informational. There should be no algorithms, even for discovery.

Algorithms in and of themselves aren't bad or evil. On Nostr you should be free to choose one or many to find new notes and people to follow.

The problem is when you don't have control of the algo, and it is used against you. To make you angry, to convince you to buy something etc.

Nostr fixes this by choice of client, relay, DVM, etc. Algo's won't go away. They will get better, and work for you, not against you.

I think there will always be a no-algo option on most clients

A list of notes ordered by date and time is an algo

Imagine looking for a file on your computer, and the only way to list them was in order of file creation, no directory structure, no sorting by name, date modified, file type, etc

Now extend this to thousands, millions of people committing notes on a worldwide network. Some way to sort and filter is necessary, I think anyway.

I'm in favour of interesting algorithms for the more microblogging / social media uses of Nostr... but I'm mostly actually more in favour of a topic-focused threads format like a forum
