Typewriter, removed the cd player, wound down the window

Removing the cd player from a car. I don't get why this would be a thing. Unless they mean like, to replace it with a cooler one?

I was never quite so materialistic, and if anything used the cassette player adapter to route audio from my mp3 cd player to my speakers.
