I saw them last night in Wyoming. There was a slight haze to the north, so it was very dim and hard to see with the naked eye, but I got some good pictures. With the naked eye we could only see a flickering green glow. With my camera, I could see the reds.

The Northern Lights were on display in the lower 48 last night. It's only the second or third time (that I know of) that they've been visible from our house. Usually they're only green this low, but last night was something special. Perhaps a result of our unusually cold and snowy April, as it's typically much warmer by now. I got to see an epic display in Portage, Alaska in 2010, date I say, this was better.... 👀
The aurora borealis forecast center in Anchorage, AK had last night listed as "moderate" and tonight is listed as "high ++", so I'm hoping for some epic viewing from remote, lower 48 spots tonight. A great reason to head for the mountains with little or no light pollution.
"Very intense aurora often has a purple rim at the bottom. The purple results from a mixture of blue and red emissions from nitrogen molecules."
