The Supreme Federal Court (STF) sentenced 54-year-old civil engineer Regina Aparecida Modesto, who has a history of stomach cancer and various health issues, to 17 years in prison for her involvement in the events of January 8th.
The São Paulo resident and supporter of Bolsonaro told Gazeta do Povo newspaper that she entered the Senate on that day to seek refuge from tear gas bombs.
She described how at approximately 3:40 PM, while on the Senate's ramp, tear gas was deployed against the protesters and one of the building's doors was opened. "A uniformed man was saying 'come in, come in, take shelter from the bombs,' and I went in," stated the engineer, who claims to have picked up papers from the floor and spoken with police officers inside the building.
