Yeah, psychopaths feed on gullible people that see the good intentions where there are none and this precisely works because things like this affinity scam could plausibly be the result of well intended not so smart people. For the brief observer it's indistinguishable.
If you are well educated and smart and see a potential psychopath I think it's the right thing to do to make noise and point to the issue including by calling things scams in order to protect more gullible people.
