Worse still is trying to pretend the military bases don’t exist. For all the focus on “defending Taiwan” there isn’t ever much discussion over how the US has basically surrounded #China to the east from South Korea and Japan down to the Philippines and Australia.
Rightly or wrongly, the Chinese see this as the primary provocation.
