Ram lamb castration day and sheep checkup

The time has come to castrate the ram lambs. We use a burdizzo clamping tool to crush the connection of the testicles. It's a way to castrate the ram lambs without causing any external wounds. We've used this method for the last three years with good results.

This season we are also doing a check up on the flock every few weeks to give wormer to those that might need it, trim hooves, and weigh lambs. This time we only needed to work a couple ewes and didn't need to trim any hooves. The lambs average weight was 45lbs with an average gain of 15lbs. Last year around this time the average weight was 40lbs with an average gain of 10lbs. We have less lambs this season so it will be hard to tell if we are growing more pounds of lamb per acre this year until harvest time in the fall.

The little bottle lamb we saved with the Bitcoin miner is keeping us company. She is over 25lbs now and weaned off milk replacer. We think she might be blind in one eye though. All in all she's doing good!
