Even when you examine certain choices you make, you may find that there’s very little of “your” identity there.
Did you create the parameters around behaviors you call “instinctive”? No. Such actions are instinctual *precisely because* you don’t have to make a choice to commit them. They were somehow pre-determined, either biologically or culturally.
Can you choose your next thought? When will it start? When will it end? Where is its middle?
You are not the chooser of your thoughts. You do not create them. They come and go on their own. They aren’t “you.” They are part of a process you are able to observe.
