I always hated RPM so much; always felt like such an unnecessary complex mess with all the rpm database glitches, whereas the apt database is plain text and I could easily fix whatever I wanted

Though my experience was always with red hat/fedora/centos and all the derivatives. I haven’t tried SuSE since like 1999 iirc

Yeah, I haven't had an RPM issue in a long, long time, and we run everything on RHEL, Fedora, and now OpenSuSE. YMMV though.

I haven’t tried anything redhat related in well over 15 years, I’m sure they must have Fixed things since then

It was definitely before kernel 2.4, pretty sure kernel 2.2 was my first version I successfully compiled

I distinctively remember the pain of moving my kernel config from 2.2 to build on 2.4

Damn man, shit has gotten so much easier it’s insane 😂

It was my first distro ever; i tried to installed Slackware a few times before but for whatever reason I couldn’t do it 😂😂😂
