Exactly. I feel like so many people no longer know what the word censorship means. Choosing to block someone does not impose that choice on anyone else.

Yeah.

It’s like saying if you don’t eat processed vegan sludge, you’re preventing beyond meat from making it.

Censorship with personal scope is still censorship.

And impacts no one but myself.

Censorship is usually applied as being for the “common good.” My decision to self censor my information impacts no one but the person I have blocked.

So? It's still censorship.

The problem is then people start talking about block lists and censoring whole groups of ppl and anyone associating with them for wrongthink. That’s happening on nostr rn.

Also, blocking ppl is cringe beta behaviour.

On fedi, being blocked by an opponent in debate/argument is rightfully seen as a victory most of the time

Self-censorship is exactly the same as outsourcing your censor to an authority. You are still hiding things from your vision, limiting your understanding of the world, and choosing to live in a bubble.

Self-censor negative feedback and you'll quickly find that you are apparently the smartest, nicest, coolest person ever. Not because you ARE, of course, but because you blocked anyone who said otherwise.

The toxic positivity on this network is a clear example of that.

No it isn’t. A dick pic provides me nothing of value and neither does poor debate. I love getting differing viewpoints and having interesting discussions with people. It has allowed me to grow. Ad hominem and porn is not worth a second of my attention.

You do you. I don’t care to see porn, dick pics, or receive physical threats or lewd propositions. I am completely comfortable at my age to be considered a beta.

Under that conception, not liking or reposting a post is a form of censorship

At what point would you stop considering your lack of action? censorship

Remember when the woke left sued President Trump for blocking people on Twitter and won? 🤡 https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/09/us/politics/trump-twitter-first-amendment.html
