How reliable is reliable enough? 1% packet loss on a network connection always felt ok but there are retries there at least with tcp.
What about with social messages that don't get retried? There it depends on the importance of the message and whether a human sent it. Humans won't retry or figure out a message didn't get there until some time later if at all.
As much as they're abused in email, read receipts may have their place on #Nostr.

Do you mean read receipts from DMs or on public messages? The former seems plausible, the latter feels like spam.

Just thinking aloud so consider both but I agree for many public posts RRs would be spam and a kind of DDoS
You're not the only one pondering. I'm reading through NIPs. I think NIP-25 reactions would be an idea, but it should be ephemeral.
