This is a good example of how everything is connected.

I am not sure there is much an individual can do about it at the farm level as a whole, though there are probably specific ways each farm can adapt.

It is not something I really worry about here. We dry farm, and any water that is irrigated around us is first-use water.

There are no farms upstream, so we are not dealing with runoff or discharge.

If you are downstream from a lot of farms, that is almost impossible to avoid.

Water tends to pick up more and more junk the closer it gets to the ocean.

It's crazy to think the amount of chemicals being used and grains that farms are growing.. there is no way to avoid it.. except distilled water to drink yourself.

Activated coconut charcoal is useful for detoxing as well

Great point, I have heard about charcoal being great for detoxification of water.
