Aren't they too big now to do this? Might hurt more than it fixes, although I'm completely with you that this should be fixed in the future.....
Big question here is: Is #lightning currently user-friendly enough so that everyone can self-custody?

1) Freeze everyone's account. No zapping, no using lightning, no anything. At all... for 24 hours.
2) Send a press release saying,
"We did that to highlight the importance of self custody. We began as a custodial Lightning wallet to onboard newbies but now have been working hard to be non custodial - we adhere to Bitcoin's main goals. Checkout our open code at Github!"
3) Get applauded by eveyone.
