the book of revelation actually is all speaking about things that are now for us mostly in the past until about chapter 17, the whore of babylon is literally about babylon and the phonecians and cartage, the roman empire and then the catholic church brought an age of christ and then around 1100 or so this became an age of anti-christ, anti-christian, an age of satan, and we are living in the last days of this age of satan

the majority of revelation is actually talking about the past, and some of it was the past for the author as well (the stuff about babylon) - from about chapter 16 or so it starts to talk about this modern era
