This is actually the best outcome. While it seems Apple is cowering to authorities, they’re actually ceding power to the people. All it takes is citizens holding their government accountable for their draconian policies and Apple can revert to the ethical norm. Expecting Apple to unshackle the people from the overreach of the government is absurd if the people aren’t willing to stand up for their own privacy.

Dear Britfags,

Until you protest your way out of this, iOS is not good for evading thought police for meme crimes anymore. Use Graphene, use Signal, use Tor. Use sovereign solutions, use diverse solutions. Use Wormhole, use Keet. Process data locally, uncle-jim storage. Encrypt data yourself, use wireguard, use Nostr.

As hilarious as that would be, I would say it’s the responsibility of notable Brits to vocalize these problems. Again, expecting Apple to be heroic and diminish profitability would be naive.

It's what I meant. In a hypothetical message above I meant signaling like this: "take responsibility, we are not going to play 5D chess for you to guess if we bowed dow or resisted, nor we can't do things for you, there are ways out of this"
