I might be wrong but, if there is illegal content in the op return of a minned block, it doesn't matter if you have core or knots. You will be storing and distributing it anyways, right? For what I understood the difference between them is in the transaction you admit and broadcast to the mempool

If BIP-444 (or something like it) doesn't activate, then everyone will be required to knowingly possess and distribute whatever nasty things end up in the chain, in the clear, for the rest of eternity.

Isn’t the blockchain already restricted to only transactions? What kind of stuff could people push to be saved on it other than transactions themselves?
