I hate it when smoke detectors alert me to danger. Lol. Not very effective if they weren't annoying.

I dislike the planned obsolescence built into these things. I had 3 of them go bad within a week. They still work enough to do a bunch of beeping. Are there any technical reasons for this or do they just want me to buy more of them?

I believe there's a tiny amount of radioactive material in the one type that gets more sensitive over time. There is another type of smoke detector that doesn't have this same issue but they're more expensive.
