I don't think my hospital even uses it anymore. I can't recall any specific studies, but I believe proper handwashing technique with a standard soap is good enough. We do still use alcohol based gels though. I wish I could stop and do a proper water wash every time. Just not possible in a modern city ED.
I heard a story that someone got exema likely from hand sanitizer overuse. I avoid that shit in most cases since then.
