Good point. You should NEVER use your ISP provided router. Not only are the rental fees usually insane, you're leaking insane levels of metadata having your entire LAN being sent to your ISP. Not to mention the WiFi motion detection "feature" many are now implementing.

I'd recommend only a FOSS router like the OpenWRT One, or any router you can flash OpenWRT on. You can also run a local DNS server on the router itself similar to what nostr:nprofile1qqsrkl7gyds37xh2af37uwlknvjm32ska3hgr5d0cwgzdqy0ux2r2ncpzamhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuurjd9kkzmpwdejhgtcpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhsz9mhwden5te0wfjkccte9eenx7pwwdhkx6tpdshsh2l07j recommends, and even route all router traffic through a VPN or Tor.

If you or anybody else can't verify the software you're using, it's spying on you. This assumption must be made for proper OPSEC.
