Any personal experiences or strong opinions with Proton VPN?

I tried it and then went back to PIA. I trust PIA more not to keep logs I guess.
It’s what I have used for ~2 years and it’s fast. I can’t speak to the business ethics and how well they hold up against regulatory pressure but on the surface, it looks good enough to me.
I mostly just use it for encrypting my traffic on public networks. Not as a means of privacy from governments
It’s simple and works well. I use it because it’s free and I use proton email. If you’re just wanting a little privacy from your ISP it does the job
On paper it’s one the best, in terms of privacy.
I just subscribed to their premium offer yesterday, because I have a personal relay exposed on Tor. And I’m using their Tor + VPN Service that allows me to sync notes to my relay.
I think they offer a reasonably secure portfolio of services for a cost. They don’t accept anonymous crypto like XMR for payment, so like any VPN who has your IP address and a payment history you are trusting them to do what they say they do with what they know about your traffic. In my opinion they offer streamlined and effective obfuscation for people who have a concern with ISP, Stingray, and location based content blocking. Azirevpn can be configured and paid for anonymously if your threat model requires less trust in your VPN provider. You can try both for free and ProtonVPN offers free tiers for long term use as well.
