The Patriot Act didn't protect people from terrorism, it just invaded the privacy and freedom of the 'patriots' it was supposed to protect. Similarly, any law to protect Aussies from hackers will instead reign in the freedoms we enjoy, few that they are, and surveil us at a much higher level.
