This quote reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of both intuition and the ego. Intuition, properly understood, is not a mystical force guiding one toward transcendence. It is simply the subconscious processing of knowledge already acquired. While it can provide insights, these must be validated by reason to ensure they are grounded in reality. To rely on intuition without rational examination is to risk acting on whim rather than truth.

The ego, too, is profoundly misunderstood in today’s society, often maligned as a synonym for arrogance or brutish selfishness. Properly understood, the ego is the rational self—the faculty of awareness that chooses values and acts to achieve them. It is the source of creativity, ambition, and moral integrity. Far from trapping one in cycles, the ego is the source of growth and self-made progress when guided by reason. To attack the ego is to attack the very essence of what makes human progress possible.

This misunderstanding is perpetuated by altruism, which presents a false dichotomy: sacrifice yourself to others or sacrifice others to yourself. Altruism denies the existence of rational selfishness—the pursuit of one’s own values through reason, integrity, and productive effort. It equates selfishness with exploitation and brutality, a devastating package deal that conflates rational self-interest with the irrational whims of those who trample others. True selfishness is not about domination or looting, it is about living by rational principles, trading value for value, and achieving one’s own happiness without sacrifice—neither of oneself nor of others.

The idea that "pure consciousness" can bypass the mind’s processes is rooted in mysticism, which rejects the necessity of reason and logic. True development and evolution come not from abandoning the mind, but from using it fully—integrating knowledge, challenging contradictions, and acting with purpose. This is the path of independence, the self made soul.
