this applies to everything, but it's so hard to comprehend/accept -- this not being understood/intuitive is what leads to collectivism

For sure! I'm guilty of it myself, anxiety about the future that may never come or depression about the past that I can't return to. It does help me to remember that all we have is right now and if we can make the best of right now, then we're doing the best we can do.
