#Tao Te Ching: Chapter 16

Empty your mind of all thoughts.

Let your heart be at peace.

Watch the turmoil of beings,

but contemplate their return.

Each separate being in the universe

returns to the common source.

Returning to the source is serenity.

If you don't realize the source,

you stumble in confusion and sorrow.

When you realize where you come from,

you naturally become tolerant,

disinterested, amused,

kindhearted as a grandmother,

dignified as a king.

Immersed in the wonder of the Tao,

you can deal with whatever life brings you,

and when death comes, you are ready.

I love the iching. Such a fascinating perception that eastern thinking has distilled out of being aware of the natural world. Knowing how to act in accordance with the current moment in time is a beautiful thing.

how to empty your mind?

There are a few techniques for doing it, including 8 limbs of yoga ( pratyahara and dharana especially), but even just reading Thai The King repeatedly and simply trying to understand it and then following the practices therein will give enormous results. Any good translation will do for a start.

also try dhamma.org

Yep.

There's actually a literature on the subject. The simplest probably best short one is called 8 lectures on Yoga, by Aleister Crowley.

Its pretty awesome and gives great intro for a western mind. There's also Raja Yoga by swami Vivekananda. Both great works that direct you further, while giving simple (explanations that is ;) ) techniques right there and then.

Thanks for this, What translation is this from?
