video games aren't stupid
almost all (maybe all) of the professional developers i know said they got into coding because they wanted to make their own game
games are simply the voluntary attempt to overcome unnecessary obstacles
the people who like them go on to overcome necessary ones
To make a video game you need to know at least a little bit about most of these things:
state machines
networking
security
game theory
user interface design
physics
math/algebra/trigonometry/calculus
animation
compression & encoding
and programming of course
I think game dev uses more skills than almost any other kind of development. It is daunting.
