The fixation on meat in the bitcoin crowd is strange. What do these things have to do with each other?

From what I've gathered, there's some overlap with the idea of personal sovereignty and growing one's own food. There's also the anti-government or anti-regulation position, where the oversight of the meat industry is associated with additives and hormones.

There may also be a natural repulsion from the vegan crowd, who tend to be more progressive and pro-government.

It is strange to me that there is more outspoken climate-denialism than environmental conservativism in the community. I've seen more links to chemtrails than deforestation, for example.

Of course, like everything, sometimes it's just that we encounter a handful of very outspoken individuals who don't represent the larger group at all, but we assume as much because they are "louder".

That's a good explanation. I worry though that this (along with many other things) makes the community appear cult-like to newcomers. Those people are likely coming to BTC from a monetary /technical perspective and don't have any interest in getting dietary advice.

Lol totally hear that. I think it's still very early. Some people will pop in and not get it or not like what they see, maybe leave for a while, maybe come back. There is a learning curve that isn't for everyone, just like Bitcoin. Not everyone wants to choose relays and do their own censorship, especially when the payoff is only finding two other people with your niche interest.

But there is so much passion in developing #Nostr further, especially since the devs get to be social and get instant feedback. Unlike Bitcoin devs that mostly grind away behind the scenes for a year, motivated by lofty ethos or anarchism.

I think for casual banter a-la Twitter, Nostr is going to win. But for niche hobbies, #reddit will remain king. (Except for the Bitcoin sub, which kinda sucks).

It's fascinating to see Nostr develop in real time. We're still in an era of peace and love, but I am starting to see people come in and argue about this and that. Just a matter of time before every thread has a native troll.
