In terms of the fan, I have seen the noctua option, but my understanding is that those aren’t as quiet as you might want for a bedroom unless you are underclocking. I think the $120 fan would let you run the heater at a higher capacity with lower volume. Maybe that is over-kill though.

Do you know a good place to see some example builds people have done for single room heaters?

Here is my unit running at 800 watts without a case. A decent case (esp if you line it with foam or sound deadening material) will be even quieter. The volume is good for an office during the day (13 x 14 ish room) but still too loud for the bedroom. Haven't run it in dead of winter yet but I can probably underclock it to 500 where it's a whisper and still be sufficient for this size room.

I put 120mm fans and that helps significantly. The fans here are stock NZXT fans that came off of one of their aio radiators. I have another with Noctuas and that runs even queter. Larger fans can move the same volume of air at lower RPMs.

The biggest bang for buck upgrade is the tiny 60mm fan on the psu. The stock one is incredibly loud. I'm using noctua NF-A6x25 FLX fans for the psu. If you could only do ONE upgrade and volume was your priority, this is the fan I'd upgrade first.

Thanks. I’m gonna order an S9! Can you share which noctua fan models you ordered to replace the non-PSU fans? Also have you ever experimented with a 3D printed silencer like this? I may try and report back.

Oh interesting. I might try printing something like that. I'd imagine something like that will disrupt airflow though. You might want to test efficiency of that vs simply turning the wattage down. Would be neat to see a chart with temp, volume, and wattage!

For the Noctua 120mm, youll need to 3d print an adaptor (check ceypto cloaks), I am running the NF-A14 IndustrialPPC 3000 PWM version. There's several flavors of the NF-A14. The normal case fans will probably be quietest but I think they max out around 1800 rpm. There are two industrial versions that max at 2k vs 3k rpm. Generally, volume is directly proportional to RPMs. At 800 watts my fans typically spin around 1800 rpm. I went with the 3k version for longevity amd to give myself headroom if I wanted to run at higher wattage at some point

For the power supply I'm using NF-A6x25 noctua fans which I highly recommend.

Also check crypto cloaks guide. It's very good and was what I primarily followed.

Interesting - didn’t know there was an adapter needed. I thought the fans just had to be modified by clipping some plastic. I’ll have to check out their guide in more detail. Thanks!

Yeah the standard fans are 90mm. I suggest going with 120mm. I don't see any way to connect them up properly without an adapter. The holes don't line up otherwise.

Hey sorry quick correction to all this... The stock fans are 120mm amd the noctuas I put on are 140. Go with the 140 + adapter. Moves more air at lower rpm/noise.
