Oh oops I see what you said about it not reading it now. I haven’t had that problem with mine

Yeah idk it worked when I first used it set it up and put my btc on it.

IDK why.

Qr code worked tho. Had to take a pic of qr code with my phone camera tho to get my computer (both of them) to read it

I was going to do Unchained but I decided to do it myself. It was mostly feeling uncomfortable about having sufficient descriptor backups that was daunting to me, but I’m glad I went solo on it.

Per my recent post, think I'm gonna switch my cold storage to seed signer.

What bitcoin did episode with him on it was fantastic.

My next multisig will use a SeedSigner as one of the 3 keys. Foundation Passport Core and ColdcardQ as the other 2.

When you setup a multisig vault, do you backup all three seeds on steel? Backups give you something to fall back on but also a larger attack surface… trying to decide what to do. Curious what others in the space recommend

No...I have one of them stamped ( from when I used as single sig)

Again, I might just switch to seedsigner for long term storage...then just backup the seeds in 3 diff geo locations

Alright yea I’m leaning towards steel backups of all three seeds but just need to figure that out. Thanks!

If using a SeedSigner for a multisig, it’s still good practice to not put more than one of the seeds through the same device. If you really want to minimize your attack vectors, I think it’s still a good idea to use hardware wallets as well so that it is multi vendor. Also, hardware wallets store a backup of your multisig configuration as well.

The SeedSigner does have some additional vulnerabilities; i.e. you need to verify the software before downloading it. If you really want to be paranoid about it, you should never leave the device anywhere that anyone could access it, bc someone could tamper with the hardware, or even the software on the SD card. So you should keep it locked up, or verify the software on the SD card before using it, or use a fresh verified download each time, and examine the device for tampering. These are high paranoia concerns though. Also, I’m not an expert lol. Definitely steel backups for all seeds though.

I’ve always gone Coldcard but considering getting at least one other brand of hardware for the third key… can’t really decide tho. Trust Coldcard more than any others so wouldn’t mind sticking with it even for all three seeds

Good point, appreciate it

I just ordered a seedsigner this evening.

Yes, I might use my coldcard for one of the signers.

You can keep the wallet config on printed sheet tho, with each of your keys.

Speaking with all humility tho obv

Glad I'm making sense tho. All my edu is from YouTube and podcasts

Yes, all backups on steel. I considered getting a SeedHammer, which engraves everything for you including the descriptor, but decided to just do it manually since using the engraver has some potential risks associated with it and also is expensive. I may still get the SeedHammerII for the purpose of engraving the descriptor only, which gives you a metal backup of that without having to put any seed information into the machine. For the seeds, I decided to use the Blockmit Jig with generic washers, since it is low cost and you can always buy new washers and an aluminum pod to put them in.

Alright yea that makes total sense. I was leaning towards all three steel backups. Only thing is then I gotta find six secure locations for my devices and backups. Will be worth it though. Thanks!

Microseed looks pretty good.

Heard of it from Daniel White on The Bitcoin Podcast a few days ago

Yeah that would be cool too, also potentially easier to lose with everything on just one washer. Also btw, pretty sure Foundation Passport Core is actually the only bitcoin-only hardware wallet that’s truly fully airgapped. All others have either Bluetooth or NFC capabilities.

I would love to set and forget. I did that with single sig for like 5 years w ledger.

Then I read a book and deep dived.

Then I went all in.

Then I went cold card single for like a year. Always made me nervous having single.

6 mos or so ago I did the multi.

IDK I might just leave my multi setup for now for a while...3 diff device manufacturers....just the ledger doesn't work. But ya I still have the seed
