I went to Belize at the begining of the year and had zero cell service for most of the 2 week trip. And the places I did have service, or at least wifi (one place I staued was an eco-lodge with limted electrcity and only had sketchy, slow wifi in a small common room).
I couldn't get text messages so I was locked out of any thing that used my cell number as a 2fa (all of those that could be have since been swapped to a proper authenticator app) and several apps I use are apprently geofenced to the US.
My phone got relagated to compact camera.
The stages of grief were all accounted for.
But a good reminder these things are just tools. Hammers that can build, or disasemble, or kill. (zombie apocalypse with only one thing? 🔨) But still, just tools.
We are becoming more and more transhuman. Luckily we can still put down our cybernetics and chose how we wield them.
