"We come out of the womb and we're just a blob of nothingness. That's the first separation: from our mother.
Then we add on all these things—name, interests, etc—that serve to separate us, make us unique from everyone else.
And it's almost like the journey of life is going into that multifarious identity space but then piecing together the things—the understandings or the information—you need to recognize your fundamental unity with everyone. So going from unity to multiplicity back to unity.
Contending with that properly is the journey toward discovering and embodying virtue. And what is virtue other than a word we use to point toward that highest place and the aspects of it that we can bring down into our life and display in our action."
