“The last month or two there have been reports from multiple users on the internet of microphone-in-use dot randomly turning on, and staying on, and that "Unknown" app is using the microphone. These reports come from GrapheneOS, stock Android, and even iOS which doesn't share code with Android at all, and from all sorts of users. Tor Browser certainly isn't installed at all in most cases. What it is that is happening, no one seem to know yet. It might be hacks, the coincidences with iOS leads to me now slowly starting to suspect this.”

Yeah I noticed that on regular Samsung variant of Android OS. CalyxOS seems to be in the clear. It's mass surveillance.

Happened to me yesterday on CalyxOS too. Once I sent a voice message in nostr:nprofile1qqsvnx99ww0sfall7gpv2jtz4ftc9v6wevgdd7g4hh7awkpfvwlezugpzamhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuurjd9kkzmpwdejhgtcmhemfz the app was using my microphone forever. The green dot disappeared after restarting the phone. Even if you force stop SimpleX it will continue to access the microphone. You really have to hide the app or restart the phone. Annoying.

Not happened for me on Calyx with no sim. Mic access has been toggled off.

Using LineageOS and have not noticed that.

You have zero security running that shit but good luck.

And what makes you say that?

No secure element hardware & your software is years behind in security protections compared to GrapheneOS.

Hi skipper 😉🤟🏴‍☠️ nice to meet you 🤝 Definitely concerning. If this is happening across iOS, GrapheneOS, and stock Android, it suggests a serious privacy issue whether malware, a system bug, or permissions abuse.

Best steps:

• Check app permissions

• Monitor network activity

• Use hardware mic kill-switches if possible

If even GrapheneOS users are affected, this needs deeper investigation.
