Too bad that most nostriches couldn’t leave the like button behind.
Discussion
It can also play its role.
a zap and a like express different things
a like indicates that you found something useful, interesting, relevant, whatever. you liked it
a zap indicates it provided you some amount of value that you are willing to pay for, such as paying to support future development of the content
there are some people that think you should only zap and more than (insert some sats number) because some BS, those are usually the ones that can’t provide meaningful value to be worth *paying for*
It’s not all about zaps, you can “like” someone’s notes by commenting “I like this note” or with emojis ❤️ . The like button is a cheap trick that does more for the liker than the poster.
It actually is better for other viewers too as they can see actual conversation instead
If the like button wasn’t there most users wouldn’t take the time comment. Users scroll and give away meaningless likes.
You are missing the entire point
No I get it. You’re saying if people couldn’t like notes they would put a heart emoji in the comments and it would clutter the feed and make it harder to read the conversation. I’m saying those people who like notes wouldn’t go to the comments to leave a heart emoji. The only reason most people hit the like button is because it’s easy to do and in their muscle memory. Liking the note gives the liker a false feel good dopamine hit. I believe that without likes, comments would increase engagement and lead to a better user experience.
That is an interesting take, it could drive real engagement. I do use the like button as well, but I would much rather get comments.
I don’t think there is anyone who appreciates a like more than positive comment.
I’ll take the negative ones also, likes are low signal, at least you know someone saw it enough to tap a button. But the negative can get conversations started, lighthouse thought my portraits looked like shit 3 weeks later he got one haha
Sometimes seeing a one off from an artist doesn’t look as strong as seeing an entire collection. Each additional piece makes the other pieces stronger. There are plenty of Keith Haring pieces I don’t like. But overall he is one of my favorite artists. These pieces below I could care less for

I prefer his recognizable pop art

It’s not my jam. I’m sure I could find some that I appreciate though.
There’s so many types of art and pop art ain’t my jive typically. I could def appreciate it in person as is the case with most art for me.
For sure, you get a sense of someone’s style to eventually and you just know who did it immediately.
