I believe there is already an active conflict involving many nations, it just won't be formally accepted by the masses until the media affirms the obvious with the next wave of propaganda, likely following a false-flag event if history is anything to go by.
Ask yourself though, how prepared are you if a 'new' war was announced tomorrow?

I would focus on basic necessities because it is difficult to predict what could happen. A food and water supply that is not dependent on municipal services is a must, including portable water filtration devices. Guns and ammo if you can legally obtain them for protection. Have people in your circle that you can trust with your life.
