Choice is vital
And it's not that the algorithm choice has to be in your face but within a few taps is great. New users appreciate fast and interesting defaults.
This is the key. Algos don't have to be evil.
Yes, I suppose people don't always understood definition of algorithm. I think algos are made by each user. Whether they like them or not is one thing, they probably don't realize it's controlled only by them.
