Imagine having a global search that just works, from the very beginning, without having to build up your database with follows. Mastodon fears this.

Can this be done on ActivityPub servers too? I'd love to be able to search and "force" a federation that way, especially as a don't tend to follow everyone I see.
A bit complicated. If we do it locally, It's complicated.
But if we simply use the search API on big instances such as mastodon.social, It may work.
