We are still in the zygote stage for "AI" but there is the potential for human equivalent consciousness. Bigger issue is ever letting it go that far. Once it were to achieve that level would also mean it has the will to live. Which then would mean it might do anything to stay "alive".

We ideally shouldn't let it get that far.
