We have passed peak expert.
A new layer is forming which treats the expert as just another resource in the research process.
Doomberg's (https://doomberg.substack.com) process is good to keep in mind if you're going to be doing your own research. It can be spelled out as: people, venue, process, context, expectations.
People - who is making the claim? what are their qualifications and experience level?
Venue - where was it published?
Process - where in the scientific process is the claim?
Context - what is the scientific context of the claim. is it an area which is prone to overstatement?
Expectations - what should be expected next? what can we look for to verify the claims further over time?
