In the future it will be necessary, maybe. In the meantime a killer app may happen that will bring in a mass of users organically.

I think that bringing in a mass of normal users too early, before Nostr is feature complete, could give it a bad reputation. Much like satoshi was worried about WikiLeaks using bitcoin too early.
