Yes to this…but too many bitcoiners want to start at the point when these things started affecting them i.e. 9/11 or 1971. But to truly have this conversation one must go back to the FOUNDING compromises of this nation - Native genocide and Slavery. If we do not start from these place then what we are talking about can too easily becomes “Liberty and egalitarian values for ME but not for thee” which in truth leads to neither, for either.
I love when people have the clarity to make such statements as this but it always drags when they seem to miss the larger point. By gross misunderstanding or willful omission - for instance, that things like the Patriot Act and PRISM are simply the children of Jim Crow, Operation CHOAS, and COINTELPRO.
If America never truly had the rights of freedom and liberty it ain’t because of Nixon or 9/11. It’s because of the Trail of Tears and the Founding Fathers raping slaves in the shanty houses behind Independence Hall. We must come to understand that our Founding, as with most grand exercises of power, while it may have been great, was not necessarily good. And yet even in this, we can find values and vision that are worth fighting for and upholding.
And so, each and every American carries this heavy weight, like a ball and chain to the ankle. Some are just realizing this now, because they’ve had others, in ways perhaps unseen and unknown to them, to carry it for them. Too often the ask seems to be that they may have their servant back to shoulder the load, rather than to have the shackles removed altogether, and for all.
Until we until do the latter, we will never truly know how fast and far we could have run.
