What are our options here? It’s not clear to me how just switching to Google Android necessarily solves the problem. Are there any other options out there that are arguably better?
I feel like this just makes web clients the way to go…?

the #nostr phone has to come out
The issue with PWA’s is that the vast majority of normies will not bother. Love or hate Apple / Google official stores, people have been trained to view it as an endorsement of the quality and security of the app.
I have an iPhone and Android that share a number, so I can switch if I want. I actually did this last December for Damus. I am not an ordinary use case and in business iPhones reign supreme as a status symbol, everything just works, etc. Those people will not switch to Android for #nostr .
Even if they would switch, then Google can just do this later unless everyone runs GrapheneOS or CalyxOS and manually installs an APK, which most people will not do.
I’m not saying all hope is lost, however if it’s not dead simple, point and click then you are losing a lot of users to technical barriers and complacency to let Apple or Google set the rules.
The only approach I can think of is if the EU and / or US States presented a legal challenge that prohibited the removal, etc. Also not likely. I hope I’m wrong and the devs come up with something amazing.
Hmmm…yeah, the App Store attack vector on bitcoin is pretty huge. Having to go through centralized gates to access decentralization…
For now. One of the downsides of being an early adopter of decentralizing technology. The pendulum is swinging back toward decentralization., just not fast enough for me.
Slowly then all at once. The hope is that your patience is reward and you’re positioned to win we we get to “all at once.”
But alas, there is such a thing a being too early…
