Do they provide filtering in the same way that content hosts like nostr.build do? Because if they don't, then it makes no difference.

Client side filtering options are better. This is a tradeoff that creates a middle man we prefer to the middle man we already had. Not the ideal path to sustainability for nostr infrastructure providers.

When you say "global feed", you refer to "root" events?
Replies should be delivered to the OPs relays, so allowing writes by third parties should, in my opinion, be allowed. Yet that opens up for spam attacks on threads, but at least the global OP feed will be better.
