if bluesky suddenly announce it would shut down for good like pebble, do you think its users would join nostr or fedi/masto or twitter or threads or something else and why #asknostr

My most pessimistic (I'm avoiding 'realistic' lol) scenario, and not just about bluesky users but general adoption of nostr...

It would take something like, I don't know.. 5-10 years of failure of adoption, nostr practically inactive (except for me posting dungeon synth and arguing with the cyborg bot), forgotten.

Someone remembers nostr, a YouTuber perhaps going 'wwwahheeey remember the nooostttoor protocoool waaahey, that was a bygone era of decentralised media waahey. Let's look back at the protocol that failed cos the community couldn't stop saying ST4CK S4TS AND ST4Y HUMB1E. Don't forget to like and subscribe, so your pod will get autoupdated and I can get an extra portion of bugs. Waaaheeey'.

And someone out there will go hmm 🤔 nostr, might just bloody work now it's empty.

I feel like "Remember when" stuff requires both a real peak and actual death. There will be no "remember Pebble" video and there probably isn't a "remember IRC" video either.

Definitely not Pebble, but did that really try (or brand itself) as doing anything interesting / significant?

I would be surprised if there is something like this for IRC tho. ....so I had a look and there was even a few videos about an IRC resurgence with p large viewer numbers 🤔

I suppose it's in the hands of whoever finances it. By the looks of it, it does seem to be getting significant waves of new users from x exoduses

the most realistic scenario for NOSTR is it gets taken over by folks from childlove.space who argue that raping your own children is a good thing because it's hot

they have been doing this in my mentions while i was asleep

it was one of the longest discussions i have seen here

i don't approve of raping your children by the way
