Still I Stand

I've walked along these restless shores,

where sand betrays each step.

Grains of creeds and canon cling

to paths now lost or kept.

Years I've wandered through these winds

of doctrines from afar:

tides from Rome, Byzantium,

Reformers’ thorny scars.

Each shell I lift hums threads of truth—

which sings the sweetest song?

I've learned there are no villains here,

but pilgrims wandering on.

Some days, the ground beneath me shakes—

my faith a fragile raft.

But when storms rise in darkest night,

my footing still holds fast:

for under all the shifting sand,

beneath all fractured maps,

beyond the striving, hurt and pain

the Rock remains steadfast.

And though I know not every chart,

nor claim to know I'm right,

I stand and sing upon the Rock

my Savior, friend, and life.
