Happy 39th birthday to Ross Ulbricht!

He is currently serving two life sentences + 40 years for hosting a darkweb marked called Silkroad. He has been in prison for 10 years by now.

Unpopular opinion: He knew he was doing something illegal. He took the risk and got caught. End of story.

I support his views that people should be allowed to do with their body as they want but yeah, it was illegal and he got caught but first-time offenders with all non-violent charges typically don’t get such a harsh sentence.

Every bitcoin transaction is transparent. Therefore Bitcoin is anti criminal and honest money. He should have known and used cash instead.

Very interesting and smart take!!!! Crazy how the mainstream makes bitcoin sound so evil and is the source if money laundering lolZzzz everything is on chain!!!

Check out his artwork and writings, they’re amazing!

Like what, yesterday I reviewed the documentary & the film shot on him... It’s no coincidence...

Imprisoned but his mind is "free" because many of us recognize his work & his 'vision' of the world. Multiple are those fond of code, algorithms but have never had the balls to execute and host a virtual market for psycho-propeller substances.

"Silk Road" was a perfect project to legalize drugs. 😋😎

This is a pervasive misconception. Ross is in prison for hiring a hit man, who turned out to be a federal agent posing as such, to murder his partner for stealing a substantial portion of the Silk Road profits. He is not in prison with the current sentence for hosting the Silk Road Marketplace.

Entirely incorrect. This is not a part of his sentence at all. Nobody was able to prove that Ross ever sent those messages IIRC and the court dropped these charges.

Hmmm, I remember the case pretty clearly. He paid for the hit when the agent showed him a doctored up series of photos of his “dead” partner and was arrested immediately on those charges. I believe it’s the hosting of the marketplace that couldn’t be directly proven and those charges were dropped. The marketplace was the reason he was framed by the agents in the first place. I’m not saying his incarceration is reasonable, but premeditated murder is just that, second party or not.

Yeah I remember they tried to frame him for the hitman stuff but nobody was able to prove that it was Ross that wrote those messages so these charges were dropped. He is only sentenced on non-violent charges. That’s my understanding at least.

You are correct. His conviction is only on the 4 charges involved with operating SilkRoad.

According to what source?

Sorry it was 7 not 4 charges that he was convicted on, but all related to SilkRoad. Source:

Guessing the murder allegations played a big role in him getting convicted though. But idk tho

IMO, they tried to make an example out of Ross to scare people off.

I agree with you. They’re trying to do similar things with Snowden and Assange.

Yeah definitely

Thank you. I’ll take a look.

In some ways the case provides a foundation for the concerns I have about Bitcoin as a currency. The FBI was able to trace and seize all of the coins associated with Ross and the Silk Road. That’s a big problem folks. It’s disturbing how court cases change the face of an event by quibbling over details. My question is, did Ross hire hitmen on two occasions, one for 80k and another for 150k, to murder individuals over money? If he did, provable or not, he belongs in prison.

Provable or not? What does that even mean?

“I think you should go to jail because you hit that old woman, provable or not”

Do you see how useless that argument is?

Also, IIRC the FBI said that they found the SR server from a Captcha that leaked the IP address that pointed to a server in Iceland.

I think there is a difference between provable and admissible in court as evidence. Did OJ likely kill Ron and Nicole? Sure, everybody knows that. Money, lawyers, and technical details led to OJ being a free man today, but does that make him anything but a murderer who got away with it?

Lol

I think plea bargaining in a case can create an inaccurate picture of the actual events. It is possible, of course that Ross was framed in multiple ways by government actors with an agenda. Maybe we will never know.

You might be right. Still, he is not in prison for the hitman narrative

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HERO!!
