but instead of providing a service, you turn DIY skills into elitism

A good observation. Little by little we have to teach people to stand their ground. Because if the big money can control it it will damage part of bitcoins decentralization.
It's a difficult problem. Because especially in large quantities self-custody becomes risky albeit a different set of risks than counterparty.
