We live in a largely out-of-control world, and for many - that is more terrifying than living under an Orwellian dystopia.

For starters - it inculcates learned helplessness and a culture of victimhood.

It does you zero good to believe that (even if it were true) - it’s a type of inverse Pascal’s Wager:

Either you believe that you are sovereign over your own life, or

you believe that no matter what happens, your fate is governed by external forces over which you have no control,

You’re right either way. You may as well choose to the former.
