Interesting: I used to get “Who’s ‘she’, the cat’s mother?” if I referred to someone as ‘she’ rather than by name when they were in the room.

And I note on re-reading that I threw a “they” in there even though I could equally have used another “she”.
I suspect that that is a hold-over from the drive to stop using “he” as the generic pronoun when I was younger.
