Aspiring sports media professional Ava Clarke had the opportunity to walk inside the ropes this week with 2023 @Sanderson_Champ winner Luke List.
The 16-year-old Children’s of Mississippi patient was born with oculocutaneous albinism, a genetic condition characterized by little to no melanin, which determines eye, skin and hair color. Melanin also plays a role in vision, leaving her legally blind.
Some may call it a disability, but Ava simply sees it as a difference.
“I feel like the word disability is genuinely so limiting. People with quote-unquote disabilities or differences are able to do anything they want to do. … So, I kind of preach that it is a difference because yes, we do have things that are maybe a little bit more limiting, but it's not stopping us from doing anything." https://video.twimg.com/ext_tw_video/1842601441250181120/pu/vid/avc1/720x900/MIYm3GmwbE1nl_L7.mp4?tag=12
