It's interesting to see how social media is starting to change as it's now the main stream platform of choice for content distribution.
Ads are clearly not driving enough revenue for these services to drive growth
#YouTube has long offered a paid ad free version, #Twitter has their paid ad free version and Meta is testing paid subscription for ad free #Facebook and #Instagram in the EU
Paid versions also allow these platforms to make their free version near unusable, spamming users with ads to encourage them to upgrade, while advertisers will pay less for that ad spam since they're not reaching high LSM users as often as they do now
This is giving me major streaming wars vibes, and people who do opt for ad free versions will pick their favourite platform and pay for it and just become power users of that platform and spend less time on others.
