these vivobarefoot esc jungle boots arrived today and they were tight af and super squishy in the sole, almost totally not barefoot style

i thought to myself, i wonder if there is a removable innersole ... sure enough, and you can probably see that the right foot (your left) is more relaxed in there where the other foot, with the innersole still in, is squished

it was made even worse by the laces, which are possibly the nearest thing i've seen to heavy duty paracord in boot laces in my life... switched them out for light weight elastic cord with a spring clamping closure to tighten them

i almost thought i'd made a mistake not getting the next size up but once the laces and innersole are gone, they fit like a glove

Where you going?

i live in #madeira... the place is full of little aqueducts and waterfalls and dusty dirt tracks, and i've been meaning to do more walking and these will make it much easier to go offroad

i would have preferred if these were leather, but the fabric will be cooler in the summer which is when i'm most likely going to be using these a lot, in the coming months

it really sucks how few choices there are for tall boots for men... they are immensely practical for long distance walking

so looking forward to trotting through the mountains in these things... they will keep the bits out of my feet, they are about 10" tall, my preferred boot height, and if they do get wet, they are made of mainly nylon and urethane meaning a few hours in the sun and i'll be good to go, worst case

i got them after my epic adventure down to seixal to the west of sao vicente... my little black leather vivobarefoots, which they don't make anymore, sadly, made in africa and all, got quite wet and full of grit from the water, when i run across this again now i should be ok... i got waterproofing spray too, the boots are closed right up to the top so with hydrophobic treatment and brief immersion i probably will not even have to worry about drying my feet at all

It'd be great if you can post a review of these at some point after you've had a chance to put them through their paces. I'd be interested to hear your impressions of them after some decent use.

well, i have been very pleased with my little black leather shoes, but again the laces were garbage, those little things have been absolutely awesome

the main thing i'm finding with these is that they are a bit stiff around the ankle and the anklebone protection is in the wrong place, my anklebones are a little taller, and the heel has a lot of motion which i know will be hard on my socks and skin

but yes, i am gonna get into wearing them regularly, i expect that they will stretch a little in places and get more comfy, and the dual spring clamp/elastic lacing scheme i've rigged up feels really good already

when i was in prison, for about a month i was obsessively thinking about how to make a slip-on jackboot style by using pleating and such to get the instep feel nice, because most shoes get that all wrong
